Planning the Perfect Dorm Room with Pottery Barn Dorm

Hello friends!! I’m so excited to be partnering with Pottery Barn Dorm on today’s post & will be sharing my tips for planning the perfect dorm room.

When I graduated High School in 2016 one of the first things I started to do was plan my dorm room. For years I had been imagining what my dorm room would look like and was so excited to start shopping. Since then, my go-to spot for dorm & apartment décor has been Pottery Barn Dorm. They truly have everything you need in all of the best colors (yes, I do need pink bedding and accessories to match!).

I’m entering into my Senior Year and finally feel like I have this whole college thing down. After living in the dorms my Freshman Year – I’m confident that I know what you need and what you don’t need in order to have the most stylish (+ functional!) dorm room. Keep reading for some of my suggestions on planning your perfect room!

Planning the Perfect Dorm Room with Pottery Barn Dorm

Let’s start with the basics. If you’re starting from scratch, I recommend picking your bedding first! In a small dorm room, your bed will be the focal point – so I always go for happy, bright colors. I’m loving this bedding in Powdered Blush. Keep in mind that most dorm beds are Twin XL, but check before you buy anything! After picking my duvet cover, I browse the rest of the bedding section on Pottery Barn Dorm until I’ve found the perfect pillows, sheets, and throw blanket. I also think this lounge pillow is a necessity for a dorm room – it’s comfortable and perfect for late-night studying in bed (or if you’re up late binge-watching some shows).

After picking out my bedding – onto decorations & desk accessories!! I like to keep my walls simple but a calendar is always a must. This rose gold calendar wall decal is perfect for a dorm because it has self-adhesive backing so it doesn’t damage the walls! Dorms typically have a no-nails rule so items like this are the best!! Thankfully, Pottery Barn Dorm has an entire section on their website dedicated to no-nail items. Here are a few of my favorite pieces!

Since you should *plan* on doing at least a little studying in your room, make sure to pick up some desk accessories too! I hate having a cluttered desk, so some file folders & pencil holders (look how adorable these marble & gold ones are!!!) are perfect for keeping your space clean. This lamp that comes in 3 colors is also very chic and a must (especially if your roommate goes to sleep early when you still have work to do).

Space is limited in dorm rooms – so plan on getting ready at your desk as well! I found a few beauty accessories that are adorable & will save space and help you get ready for those 8 am classes. This light up beauty mirror also has room at the bottom for some perfume/nail polish, aka a great space-saver! I also love this hair tool organizer because it holds my hair tools and makes sure they aren’t burning my desk if they get too hot. Below are some beauty accessories as well as some bathroom ones!

Don’t forget to have some fun with your décor! This cinema lightbox is the perfect desk accessory! It would be so fun to switch up the messages & leave notes for your roommates on it. Below I’m sharing some adorable decorations! Don’t forget to pick up an over-the-door full length mirror (coordinate with your roommate to make sure you both don’t show up with one).

One thing I love about shopping from Pottery Barn Dorm is the quality of the products! Not only are they affordable, but they will last you throughout your entire college experience. I’m still using some of my Pottery Barn Dorm decorations that I got as a Freshman!

Thank you so much to Pottery Barn Dorm for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own!
